Trust & safety
We encourage strangers to meet. That obliges us.
This page is not marketing. It is the set of controls we consider non-negotiable for a product that works this way.
Before you go
“I'm meeting someone.”
Add a trusted contact — someone at home, also on NoLodging — and choose what they can see:
- Who you are meeting, with a link to their profile
- Roughly where, and what you agreed to do
- When you expect to be done — set a check-in
- An alert if you miss the check-in, or tap “ask for help”
Optional. Read-only. You see every time they look. Your plans are never announced to the other person — only if you share your messages are they told.
Verification
Layered, not binary.
- Required to have an account at all.
- Phone
- Required before you can contact anyone.
- Government ID
- Optional, and visible on your profile when completed.
- Selfie / liveness
- Optional, pairs with ID to confirm the same person.
- Background check
- Optional, where lawful. Never a substitute for judgement.
Reputation
Three people you trust have met Sarah.
That sentence is worth more than a 4.92 average, so we build toward it. There are no anonymous one-to-five star ratings here — a numeric score turns people into commodities, which is the exact behaviour we are trying to avoid.
What we actually surface
- Reference history from people who actually met you
- Account age
- Mutual connections — who you both know
- Response rate and follow-through
- Verification level
Your controls
You decide how visible you are.
- Who can see your trip
- Public, members, verified members, or only people with references.
- Approximate location
- Exact arrival points are never shown publicly. You choose what is revealed and when.
- Manual approval
- Review every proposal before anyone can message you.
- Radius and filters
- Limit who sees a broadcast by distance and by verification level.
- Block and report
- One tap, from any profile, message or trip.
On overnight stays: local rules may apply to accommodation where you live or travel, and they differ enormously from one jurisdiction to the next. We surface that context where it is relevant. We do not tell you we have found a loophole, because we have not, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
